Welcome
Welcome and thank you for visiting with us at the Kellogg Creek church of Christ website.
Who We Are
We are Christians only. We are non-denominational and have no church organization other than as an independent autonomous congregation patterned after the early church established by our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. We belong to Jesus Christ and Him only.
We desire to worship and practice our faith with simplicity and sincerity as part of the church that is described in the New Testament.
We base our beliefs and activities directly on the authority of Christ through His teachings in the New Testament. We strive to follow the practices of the churches in the New Testament and teachings of the Bible without using human traditions or creeds. This is the reason you will not see any special religious symbols in our building or creeds in our worship.
Although we understand that our worship and the way we carry our activities are also shaped by habits and traditions, we make every effort to ensure they are based on clear Biblical teaching.
Because each congregation of churches of Christ is independent, you will see some variations in small points of teaching and worship. It is our responsibility as individual members to study and learn to rightly divide the word of God so that as a congregation we can collectively offer sacrifices ‘to our Lord that will be a sweet smelling fragrance to Him’.
What You Can Expect In Our Assemblies
We assemble to worship collectively in the auditorium. There are no special sections or reserved seating. There are two cry rooms that are available for your convenience.
We have a Bible lab teaching program for grades two through twelve. Some adults also use the Bible lab for adult classes. The Bible lab is designed to allow each student to progress through the Bible at his or her own individual skill level and ability. Our teachers give every student individual attention and personalized instruction. For grades six through twelve we use the Bible lab for one quarter and conventional classes for one quarter. We like to give our older children more options and choices.
There is an assembly for 10 minutes after each Bible lab class so that all the students get together and can participate as part of the group discussion over scriptural topics and practice drills.
Prayer
There will be several prayers during a worship period. Men of the congregation will speak these prayers from the heart. During prayers, we usually stand or sit quietly with bowed heads while the prayer is being led.
You may hear members of the congregation assent to the thoughts in the prayers or at the close of the prayer by voicing “Amen”.
Singing
We practice a cappella singing based on the scriptures found in Ephesians 5:19, “Speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord”. And Colossians 3:16, “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord”.
Communion
We partake of the Lord’s Supper on the first day of the week. (Acts 20:7, 1 Cor 11:23-26) In Matt 26:26-30 Jesus instituted the Lord’s Supper for His disciples. This is the pattern that shows us how one ought to partake of the Lord’s Supper. The Lord’s Supper consists of the unleavened bread, representing His body, and the fruit of the vine, representing His blood. The partaking of the Lord’s Supper is to remember and proclaim His death until He comes again.
Offering
This part of our worship service is not a part of the Lord’s Supper. It is a separate act of worship. It is an obligation and privilege of the members here to contribute as they have been prospered for the support of the work here at Kellogg Creed. If you are visiting, please do not feel obligated to give, just pass the collection plate to the next person. However, if you would please fill out a visitor card and drop it in the collection basket, we would appreciate it.
Preaching
Usually part of each worship period will be devoted to preaching from the Bible. At Kellogg Creek, we strive to make these sermons as interesting and as practical as possible making applications to our every day lives so that we may be partakers of the Divine nature more and more each day.
At the end of each sermon, an invitation will be offered. This is an opportune time for a person to respond to the gospel. A person may respond by requesting to be baptized for the remission of his or her sins or may request prayers of the congregation. This is not the only time a person may become a Christian by being baptized into Christ, but after the gospel is preached, it is an opportunity for anyone who needs it. Anyone who desires to be baptized may do so any time of the day or night. The Philippian jailer was baptized in the middle of the night. We believe this deserves the same immediate attention.
Sometimes people use this time to make it known that they would like to place membership with this local work.
Our Leaders
We understand that each person is equal in value in the Lord’s sight, members of the body of Christ have different roles and responsibilities given by God. The chief Shepherd is Jesus Christ. Elders, deacons, and bishops all refer to the same office. The elders are to shepherd the flock among them. (Acts 20:28) Deacons are servants and are to assist in the various tasks in the local work. The preacher, also called an evangelist, is responsible for preparing and presenting sermons to the congregation. In addition, he usually will be teaching in the Bible classes. Many members will also serve periodically in both preaching and teaching roles for the congregation.
We have no concept or practice of clergy and laity.
The People Are The Church
You will find that we look like our community. We have people from different ethnic, social, and cultural backgrounds. People are from all over the country. There are old and young, single and married. We are open-minded and are willing to study with anyone. We are not perfect except through the blood of Christ. We are forgiven of our sins. We continually need the blood of Christ to cleanse us of our shortcomings.
What About You
We hope you will meet some or all of us. Our goal is to worship God and please Him. We hope you are edified and encouraged.
